Unterföhring is a cozy suburb of Munich.
This apartment is located in a low-rise residential complex, and was designed for a young couple.
Our task was to create a functional simple space, typical of German interiors, but to add coziness and charm to it.
We had to work with the initial layout of the apartment.
We moved the guest bathroom and combined the wardrobe at the entrance with the technical room. That way, we were able to secure more storage space, which is extremely important in a small apartment.
We moved the kitchen to another wall and organized an area with a drop-down screen and a fireplace where the kitchen used to be, thus completing a comfortable living room.
We removed the washing machine from the master bathroom and made it more compact. We made the bedroom bigger - better organizing the dressing room. In the slides you can see how it used to be (yellow), and how it is now (red).
We used a very interesting "hidden kitchen" technique in this apartment.
When the doors are closed, the kitchen looks like cabinets with a smooth, perfectly even facade.
Mechanisms allow sliding doors to fully open and fold into a special parking slot.
As we open up the sliding doors, we see a real kitchen with a work surface and all the necessary shelves.
This technique allows the living room to look as neat as possible and avoid "kitchen noise".
At first glance, we diversified a simple space with different lighting scenarios, added discreet wood to the monochrome range of finishes and furniture, and designed a gas fireplace, which added warmth and comfort to the apartment in the best possible way.
